New Matter smart lights will jazz up lamps and ceiling fittings
Wi-Fi smart light specialist Lifx’s resurrection has continued with the launch of the Lifx Polychrome Tube; a Matter compatible E26 light bulb that will add a bit of pizazz to your illumination game.
Looking a bit like one of those glow sticks that ravers shook about in muddy fields in the 90s, the Lifx Polychrome Tube is a Matter over Wi-Fi smart light that boasts a whopping 104 LEDs, with 52 controllable zones on hand to create dramatic effects.
The opal frosted glass tubes do not, therefore, just give off a single color from the millions on offer; you are able to blend and merge colors and shades across those 52 zones to create incredible looking lighting scenes.
Lifx informs us that there are “billions of color combinations” on offer.
Because of that Matter badge on the box, that means you’ll be able to sync them up with your smart home system of choice, whether that’s Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings or even something a bit more in-depth like Homey.
The Lifx Polychrome Tube costs $39.98 and is available now.
In the early days of the mass adoption of the smart home, Lifx was the first real contender to Philip Hue’s smart light crown with its range of Wi-Fi bulbs, but the company went into a bit of a hibernation around 2020, with very few launches arriving.
However, following an acquisition in August 2022 when Feit Electric acquired Lifx assets from Lifi Labs, 2024 has seen the brand come back from the wilderness with a range of new smart lights including a new outdoor range and a SuperColor Ceiling light.
