Aqara Smart Lock U100

Aqara kickstarted the Matter smart lock movement with the launch of the Smart Lock U100 last year; a smart deadbolt that plays nicely across multiple smart home ecosystems.

As well as the headline Matter smart home compatibility, the U100 also syncs with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home.

Out of the box, it will only work with Aqara Home and Apple Home/HomeKit.

If you want to add Matter, Alexa, or Google Home to the mix then you’ll need to pair it with one of the multitudes of Aqara smart home hubs.

If you go down the Matter / HomeKit route, the U100 is also compatible with Apple Home Key, which means that you can use Apple Wallet to ‘store’ your key and unlock your door with either your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Aside from the HomeKit smarts, the U100 also supports a number of other unlocking options including fingerprint, password, NFC, and a mechanical key.

You are also able, through the Aqara Home app, to create one-time and periodic passwords to give access to guests for short-term, long-term, or specific time frames.

A little sibling to the U100, the U50 went live in mid-2024. It forgoes the fingerprint reader but still packs in Apple Home Key skills. It’s the cheapest ticket to Apple’s smart lock system.

Like the U100, the U50 doesn’t actually need an Aqara smart home system hub to operate as it can sync with Apple Home or the Aqara app straight out of the box over Bluetooth.

However, add an Aqara hub to the mix and you can make use of its Zigbee radio and sync up with the likes of Google Home, SmartThings and Amazon Alexa.

It also features auto-lock and door status sensing via a built-in gyroscope and a rekeyable option to match your existing 5-pin key.

It’s IPX5 weather-resistant and offers up to six months of battery life on a single set of four AA batteries.

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

The FP2 is a revolutionary sensor for precise human presence detection that boasts millimeter wave (mmWave) radar technology, to not only sense when someone is in a room but where they are in the room and what they are doing; it can even detect your breathing.

This means it can provide essential information for tailored smart home automations such as turning off the heating when you lay down to go to sleep, or turning on the heating if it detects people coming in from outside.
