IFA 2024: Flic Hubs upgraded to act as Matter controllers
Over in Berlin, there wasn’t any new tech on show from Shortcut Labs but there was some pretty big news: Flic Hubs can now act as a Matter controllers.
Not Matter bridges just to bring Flic buttons into a Matter smart home system, but controllers – meaning you could start a Matter smart home without one of the Big Tech brands involved, or without a dedicated smart home hub such as the Homey Pro.
Although, it’s worth noting that Flic Hubs can’t act as Thread border routers so you’ll need something like an Eero router or a Nanoleaf control panel to get Matter-over-Thread devices paired up.
The Flic Twist is the latest smart controller from Shortcut Labs, following on from the huge success of the Flic button range, boasting a dial and segments to go beyond the controls of a regular smart button.
And the Matter upgrade means that its now the only rotational controller for Matter.
Flic 2 buttons also offer multiple control options and it’ll now be super simple to create button-driven Matter-based routines and automations.
Matter is rolling out as a free upgrade for all Flic users as of today (6 September).
