New weatherproof smart lights are 55% brighter than the original
Govee, fast becoming the go-to brand for cutting edge smart lights, has taken the covers off of its Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, which – as you may have guessed from the name – are the direct sequel to the original Outdoor Lights.
Notable additions to the sequel are Matter compatibility (over Wi-Fi), 55% more brightness, and white lights to compliment the RGBWIC colors.
I’ve got the original Permanent Outdoor Lights fixed around the trim of my front porch and garage and the 2024 model looks pretty much identical physically, so the big upgrades are the Matter compatibility and those extra lighting options.
White lights are very handy indeed because, rather than colored effects that are only really useful for Halloween and the Holidays – the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 will also be useful for everyday usage too.
This being Govee though there are, of course, a bajillion lighting effects on offer from the app, with 82 preset effects already on offer before you start customizing, and they work with the music sync feature too.
The lights come pre-loaded with 3M sticky pads for easy installation, along with some clips for the wires – of which you can choose between black or white to suit wherever you are mounting them.
Once you’ve put them up you can just leave them up all year round as they boast an operating temperature range of -4°F to 140°F, and are IP67 rated too.
As well as that Matter smart home compatibility, you can also get the lights working directly with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
The Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 are on sale now, in sizes of 50ft, 100ft, and 150ft, priced at $179.99, $299.99, and $449.99 respectively.
Govee was founded in 2017 and is part of the Shenzhen Intellirocks Tech umbrella. In the past few years it has been making a big push to get its connected tech into the hands of consumers in the Western World.
