How to create a photo slideshow on the Amazon Echo Show

Create a slideshow on your bedside table or kitchen counter

One of the best things about Alexa smart displays is not just their ability to help you re-order items from Amazon or view your video doorbell, but having them act as a digital photo frame.

You can change the background on your Echo Show or Echo Hub to your own shots for a big dose of personalization – and you can even do a slideshow so your Alexa screen will scroll through your holiday pictures, giving you a little dose of happy memories every time you walk back into your kitchen or living room.

The Amazon Echo Show line, which now includes an Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, Echo Show 10 and the wall-mounted Echo Show 15, means there are more ways to share your memories, too. Not to mention the larger Echo Hub. To get your photos onto your Echo smart display, you’ll need to use Amazon Photos. Here’s what you need to do and how to avoid any photos you don’t want appearing.

What you’ll need

  • Your Echo display
  • Your smartphone or tablet
  • Amazon Photos app
  • Your login for your Echo device

The short version

  • Make an album of the photos you want to see using the Amazon Photos site or app.
  • Swipe down from the top of the screen on your Echo device and tap ‘Settings‘.
  • Tap ‘Home & Clock.
  • Then tap ‘Clock & Photo Display‘.
  • Tap ‘Personal Photos‘.
  • Select ‘Amazon Photos‘.
  • Tap ‘Facebook‘.
  • Then select the album(s) you wish to connect to Alexa.
  • Tap ‘Save‘ at the bottom of the screen and you’re done.

How to get your Echo Show to display personal photos

The easiest way to get your Echo Show or Echo Hub to display personal photos is by signing yourself up to Amazon Photos. We know, it’s annoying that it can’t use Google Photos or Apple Photos but come on, are you really that surprised?

When you login to Amazon Photos, you decide what photos in your main photo library the Amazon Photo app has access to, and you can then make up multiple albums of whatever images you choose for your Echo device to display.

You’ll need to download the Amazon Photos app if you don’t have it on your smartphone or tablet. You can also go to the Amazon Photos site if you prefer. Make sure you sign in with the same details as you have used on your Echo Show or Echo Hub. Tap on the Albums tab and press the “+” to add a new album and add the photos you want to display on your Echo Show to it.

You’re then ready to follow the steps below to get those pictures on your Alexa display.

Time needed: 5 minutes

  1. Head to your Echo display’s settings

Swipe down from the top of your Echo Show and tap on the Settings icon. From here, you want to tap on ‘Home & Clock’, followed by ‘Clock & Photos Display’.

  2. Find your photo album

When you’re in the ‘Clock & Photos Display’ section, you’ll want to tap on ‘Personal Photos’ from the options and then ‘Amazon Photos’. You can then select between Daily Memories, Your Photos, Recent Photos, This Day or any album you have created.

  3. Pick an album

We’d suggest choosing a specific album as then you are in control over what photos show up on your Echo display, but you pick whatever suits you. Once you’ve picked, don’t forget to hit ‘Save’ in the bottom right corner.

Saying “Alexa, show my photos” or “Alexa, show my photo albums” will then put your photos on display. You can also ask for specific albums by name – give it a go!
