Ideas for use

You’ll be surprised how many uses you can find for Borax around your home. Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

SURFACES: Dissolve 2 tablespoons borax in 2 cups hot water in a spray bottle for general purpose cleaning.DRAINS: Dissolve a half-cup of borax in 2 cups boiling water and pour down drain. After 15 minutes, flush with water.BATH/TOILET: Heat 1 gallon of water and dissolve a half-cup of borax. Add to toilet bowl and scrub then let sit before flushing. Also excellent for cleaning and freshening tub, tile, and other common bathroom surfaces.DISHWASHER: Mix a tablespoon with dishwasher detergent for cleaning and deodorizing machine.DEODORIZE and DE-GRIMING: Spray the inside of containers with Borax solution spray for light duty. Remove caked-on or heavy residues by applying a paste of borax (add water to desired consistency) and let dry then scrape/remove. To keep clean, regularly sprinkle the bottom of empty trash cans or containers with borax powder to absorb stains and moisture.FABRICS: Add a quarter cup to your laundry load improve stain-removing power and soften fabrics.CARPET: Add a half-cup per gallon to steam-cleaning machines for extra stain-fighting power.

Laundry

Borax is already an ingredient in many laundry detergents. You can boost the performance of your favorite detergent by adding Borax or make a DIY detergent yourself with Borax as an ingredient!

Add a half-cup of borax per laundry load to boost the cleaning power of your detergent.Presoak/Brightening soak: Fill a basin with warm water and add a half cup of borax per gallon water. Let soak for at least one hour, then wash as usual.Stain removal: Make a paste with 1 tbsp Borax and 2 tbsp water. Apply paste to stained area of garment and let work at least 30 minutes, then wash as usual.

Bathroom

Dissolve some borax in warm water and decant into a spray bottle to make a general cleaning spray—it’s great for removing light stains from ceramics including sinks!

For tougher stains and odors, make a paste by mixing with water or lemon juice. Apply to stained surface and let sit for 30 minutes before rinsing clean. (Try it on grout lines!)

Kitchen

Deodorize the fridge, microwave, garbage cans, etc., by rinsing with a borax and hot water solution. For stainless steel appliances, Borax is also an excellent scratch-free cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and fingerprints.

Borax can also be used in the dishwasher cycle to deodorize the bay.

Carpet & Fabrics

Borax makes for a great carpet cleaner and deodorizer. Effective for spilled beverages, pet stains, and general funk.

Fresh spills (coffee, wine, juice, ..): Blot spill. Spray with cold water. Sprinkle borax on spill. Work gently into stain with damp cloth. Spray with cold water and blot until borax is removed. Repeat as needed.

Deodorize: Combine 1 cup borax, 1 cup baking soda, 20 drops of your favorite essential oil, and a pinch of dried herbs and mix in mason jar. Sprinkle onto carpet and let sit 15 minutes, then vacuum thoroughly. Do not let pets or children come into area while working. Protect from contact or ingestion.

Dried stains/pet accidents: Make a paste with 1/4 cup each of salt, vinegar, and borax. Apply paste to stain and let dry. Vacuum clean/rinse if needed.
