If you find yourself in the market for a video doorbell, you have probably considered Ring. The Amazon-owned company brought the first one to market in 2014 after Ring Chief Inventor Jamie Siminoff invented it, so it’s no surprise Ring is the company that first comes to mind when you think of video doorbells.

There are several options in the Ring Video Doorbell line up however, including the latest Battery Video Doorbell Pro. If you’re a little confused and wondering how the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro compares to the next in the line up, the Ring Video Doorbell Plus, we’re here to help. These are the differences to help you figure out which is the right Ring Video Doorbell for you.

Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro vs Video Doorbell Plus: Price

Amazon announced the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro in February 2024, while the Ring Video Doorbell Plus was announced at the beginning of 2023. As you might expect given the name, the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro is slightly more expensive, costing $229.99 in the US and £199.99 in the UK.

Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro vs Video Doorbell Plus: Installation

Both the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro and the Ring Video Doorbell Plus are battery operated. That means they don’t need to be wired in, though both can be if you prefer. There are other hardwired options within Ring’s video doorbell offering however so if you’re looking to hard wire, you can also consider the Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro or Ring Video Doorbell Wired, for example.

Back to these to models though. Both are estimated to take around five minutes to install, but we’d add a couple of extra on to that as you will need to attach them to your door or wall, as well as download the app and follow the setup instructions. Overall, it’s a simple experience for either.

Both are designed to operate in temperatures between -20°C to 50°C (-5°F to 120°F) and both are weather resistant, as you would expect given they live outside your home. You’ll need to ensure you have a minimum upload speed for 2.5 Mbps for both the Battery Video Doorbell Pro and the Video Doorbell Plus to deliver optimal performance. The Battery Video Doorbell Pro supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, while the Video Doorbell Plus is just 2.4GHz.

Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro vs Video Doorbell Plus: Design

When it comes to design, there’s not a huge amount of difference between the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro and the Ring Video Doorbell Plus. They are both identical in dimensions with both measuring 128 x 62 x 28mm (5.1 x 2.4 x 1.1-inches), and they both come in Satin Nickel as the color option. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro has a couple of color options, but that isn’t the case for the battery Pro model.

Look closely and you’ll notice the camera lens of the Battery Video Doorbell Pro is different to the Video Doorbell Plus, but you would need to be looking very closely to spot it. Otherwise, these two video doorbells look identical. They both have a black section at the top, a silver section at the bottom and a button in the middle of the silver section with an LED ring around it.

The battery for both the Video Doorbell Plus and the Battery Video Doorbell Pro slots in at the bottom. They both have rechargeable, quick-release battery packs so you can slot them out, recharge them and slot them back in nice and quickly.

Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro vs Video Doorbell Plus: Features

When it comes to features, there are a couple of differences between the Battery Video Doorbell Pro and the Video Doorbell Plus. We will start with what they both offer though. Both have two-way audio with noise cancellation so you can talk to anyone at your door through the Ring app and they can talk back. Both also have 1536p HD video quality and they both come with a Head-to-Toe field of view at 150-degree horizontal and 150-degrees vertical, which will allow you to see packages left on your doorstep, for example.

The two video doorbells also have Advanced Motion Detection with Customisable Motion Zones, along with customisable privacy settings and Quick Replies to help you answer the door when you’re busy. Elsewhere, there is Live View on both so you can see what is happening as it happens through the Ring app, and real-time notifications will appear on your connected devices when the either of these doorbells are pressed or motion is detected. They also both work with Alexa and you will be able to see their feeds on an Echo Show if you have one.

Where these two video doorbells differ is the Battery Video Doorbell Pro has 3D Motion Detection with Bird’s Eye Zones and Bird’s Eye View. It also has Color Pre-Roll and Audio+. What that effectively means is that you will be able to see more of your home in the Ring app, including where visitors go, and the ability see motion before it is recorded in colour.

Both these video doorbells will also offer extra features with a Ring Protect subscription. You’ll need a Protect subscription if you want to record and capture footage or get person and package alerts. We have an entire separate feature that explains the Protect subscriptions, including how much they cost and what they offer.

Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro vs Video Doorbell Plus: Which one is right for you?

There isn’t a huge amount of difference between the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro and the Video Doorbell Plus. The design is virtually identical, many of the features are the same and they are both battery operated for easy installation.

The Ring battery Video Doorbell Pro has a few extra features, like the 3D Motion Detection, Bird’s Eye Zones and Bird’s Eye View, as well as Color Pre-Roll, all of which gives you a better idea of what is happening around your home and a better view of it. You pay quite a bit extra for it though so keep that in mind when selecting.

The Ring Video Doorbell Plus is a great video doorbell that you likely won’t be disappointed with, but if you want to see more around your home, the Battery Video Doorbell Pro allows for that.
