Products to add to your Roborock mopping mix
Estimated reading time: 5 minutes
When Roborock first added mopping functionality to the robo cleaning mix a few years ago, it was a basic affair whereby you simply filled a little tank on the machine itself every time you wanted to mop up.
Nowadays, with the likes of the S7 MaxV, S8 Pro Ultra and the flagship Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, you’re getting a docking station that fills and empties the on-board tank itself, and even cleans the mopping pad after.
And it’s with these newer machines that Roborock has started advising using a cleaning solution alongside water for a regular clean.
In fact, a new addition to the mopping mix, introduced on the S8 Max V Ultra, is that the dock now boasts an auto-detergent dispenser; a 580ml tank that will add detergent to the clean water tank on the robo cleaner.
As you’d expect though, Roborock states you should only use pre-approved detergents… but I’ve been using a standard floor cleaner for a months now with no ill-effects.
So, what cleaning solutions work with Roborock? And what detergents can you add to water for a better mopping performance?
Read on to find out all about the best cleaning solutions and detergents for Roborock robot cleaners…
Roborock approved detergents
Let’s start with a disclaimer: as stated above, Roborock only recommends that you use pre-approved detergents so, any mentioned below should be used at your own risk.
Roborock advises against using third-party cleaning solutions in the water tank, as it may clog the water lines or damage the internal components.
Currently, Roborock approves a detergent from OMO. You’ll see it listed as the Official Roborock Multi-Surface Floor Cleaning Solution.
It’s officially compatible with all Roborock robots with mopping features.
Alternative cleaning solutions for Roborock
If you want to explore alternatives to the official Roborock Floor Cleaning Solution you should do so at your own risk… if your Roborock stops working and you you want a replacement you will possibly void the warranty if you try any of these suggestions.
I’d advise using them sparingly to avoid damage to the Roborock’s water tank, filters, or mopping components.
All that said, here are some alternatives that I’ve tested myself, and the Roborock community over on Reddit suggests trying:
Bissell MultiSurface Floor Cleaning Formula
A versatile cleaning solution designed to be used with Bissell multi-surface cleaning machines, the thinking is that if it’s okay and approved for Bissell branded machines, it probably won’t wreck your Roborock.
It’s formulated to effectively clean a variety of floor types, including hardwood, tile, laminate, and stone.
Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner
A specialized cleaning solution that’s designed specifically for hardwood floors, it’s formulated to be gentle on wood while effectively removing dirt, dust, and grime.
Dilute this cleaner 1 part solution to 20 parts water.
Water and white vinegar solution
A mix of water and white vinegar (1 part vinegar to 10 parts water) is a popular DIY option.
Vinegar is effective at cutting through grime, but it can leave a smell behind, and if overused, may damage the internal rubber and plastic components.
Mild dish soap and water
A few drops of mild dish soap mixed with water can work for light mopping.
Make sure to use very little soap, as too much can create a soapy residue and cause clogging in the Roborock’s water lines.
You could even put a few drops of dish soap on the mopping pad itself, rather than putting it in the water tank.
Water and rubbing alcohol
Some Redditors say they dilute rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) with water (10:1 ratio) for mopping.
It evaporates quickly and provides some level of disinfection, but over time, alcohol could potentially dry out or weaken the mop pad and internal components.
Water and essential oils
A few drops of essential oils (like tea tree oil or lemon) mixed with water can provide a fresh scent while mopping.
However, oils can be risky, as they may cause buildup or clogging if not properly diluted and used sparingly.
FAQs
While you can technically use other cleaning solutions, Roborock only officially recommends using their pre-approved detergents. Using unapproved solutions may void your warranty and could potentially damage the robot.
The frequency depends on how often you use your robot and the type of dirt and grime you’re dealing with.
No, the auto-detergent dispenser is designed to work with Roborock’s officially approved detergents. Using other detergents may cause issues with the dispenser or the robot’s internal components.
