Lasso flagship soundbar leaks ahead of launch
Sonos maybe under a bit of pressure right now, but the streaming speaker specialist will be looking towards some blue skies on the horizon.
The Verge has uncovered details of the Santa Barbara brand’s new flagship soundbar… “Codenamed Lasso, the soundbar will improve upon the already-impressive Arc with more powerful bass, Bluetooth audio playback, and completely new speaker technology.”
The report also has a couple of images of the new soundbar, which seems to have a striking resemblance to the current flagship, the Sonos Arc.
Sonos has launched 2nd-gen Beam, Roam and Move speakers in recent months, so we’d hazard a guess that Lasso will hit the shops at the Sonos Arc 2, although there could well be a new moniker for the new arrival.
Maybe it will even become part of the Era family of speakers – the Era 100 and 300 went live last year.
Whatever the name, we can expect a bumper price-tag – a $1,200 cost has been mentioned – but some bumper specs too.
The Verge points out that the speaker will pack in tech from Mayht, a Netherlands-based startup that Sonos acquired in 2022, for $100 million.
It’s purported that this could mean innovative transducers, which will enable smaller and lighter form factors without compromising on quality.
Back to what we do know for sure, if the leaked images ring true at least, is that the new Sonos soundbar will have HDMI and Ethernet around the back, with a voice assistant and Bluetooth on board too.
Presumably they’ll work with the new Sonos Ace headphones and hopefully by the time they arrive Sonos would have sorted out the steaming mess that is the Sonos app by then too.
