SwitchBot, of Bot finger and auto curtain opening fame, have taken the covers off of its latest smart security camera: the SwitchBot Outdoor Security Camera 2K.
As you probably guessed from the name, the new camera – which looks a heck of lot like the company’s 1080p variant – offers 2K visuals and is designed to live outdoors.
Thanks to a built-in spotlight, there’s color night vision – as well as infrared night vision – and there’s also a built-in 106dB siren that can be triggered by automations or if someone tries tampering with the device.
There’s AI smarts on board to help recognize the things it should be alerting you to, and you can also set designated areas to keep an eye on in the SwitchBot app.
If you’ve got an Alexa display like an Echo Show 8 or an Echo Hub you can also have the camera’s feed streamed to your smart display.
The good news, for you security conscious souls, is that everything can be stored locally with microSD cards up to 256GB supported. There is a cloud option too, but that’ll cost extra.
There’s a 10,000mAh battery on board, which is pretty massive for a security cam; and SwitchBot tells us this is good for around 6 months of life.
Throw one of SwitchBot’s solar panels in the mix though and one hour of sunlight a week will be enough to keep it going 365 days a year.
Designed to live outside, it’s able to handle temperatures from -10ºC to 50ºC and is IP65 waterproof.
On sale now, the SwitchBot Outdoor Security Camera 2K is $99.99 Stateside, £99.99 in the UK.
