IFA 2024: You’ll be able to get the system from November
Smart heating company Tado announced a new range back in May of this year in the form of Tado X, and now the company has revealed the system is set to launch in the UK. Tado X includes six products, all of which have been designed to be simpler to set up and use.
The system will arrive in the UK in November, a month after UK households are set to see a 10% increase in energy prices, and it is said to offer savings of 19% on average, as well as control over heating bills.
The Tado X system is made up of the Wireless Smart Thermostat X, Wired Smart Thermostat X, Smart Radiator Thermostat X, Wireless Temperature Sensor X, Heat Pump Optimizer X and Bridge X, though the latter is optional and can act as a Thread border router for homes that don’t already have one. The Tado X system itself runs natively on a Thread mesh network, and it joins Google’s Nest as one of the only heating systems to support the Matter protocol.
All the products within the Tado X system connect to the Tado app, which offers smart scheduling and a number of other “set and forget” features for easy control, though it is worth noting that some of the advanced energy management features are locked behind a subscription.
Energy management features include geofencing to turn down the heating when everyone is away, Open Window Detection, Energy IQ information and tips on cutting consumption, Weather Adaptation and Air Comfort.
The X devices come with new display for a better user experience, while the Smart Radiator Thermostat X comes with a battery that can be recharged by a USB-C cable for convenience. The Heat Pump Optimizer takes care of heat pump control and efficiency and it works with Smart Radiator Thermostat X and Smart Thermostat X for control over individual rooms and zones. The Heat Pump Optimizer X can also act as a Thread border router.
The Tado X thermostats and the new X temperature sensor are all compatible with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit. The Tado X range is not compatible with Tado’s other ranges however, as they “use different technology platforms, despite offering similar functionalities”, Tado says on its website.
It also says: “Tado X is not compatible with earlier Tado devices and they can’t be used together on the same account”. It means that while the Tado X range will be able to communicate with non-Tado devices that are also Matter-enabled like Tado X, it can’t be added to setups that use Tado V3+ and earlier.
The Tado X system previously launched in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark on 15 May. It will come to the UK in the beginning of November. Prices are as follows:
